Road Story

I spoke at two and again at six, and I neeeeeeed to get on the road but this was too cute not to share while it is fresh. So, here’s the thing– you have to watch those elderly belles…

After I spoke earlier, an elderly lady was waiting around my book table and I thought it looked like she wanted to speak to me privately.  She did. When she saw her chance, she lowered her voice to a soft whisper and said, “I’m sorry, but I have to know something.” I smiled to encourage her, “Yes?”

The dear old belle looked down at my feet and back into my eyes and asked, “What’s with the boots?”

Oh, yeah. These boots. The ones I thought I was rocking them with this cute little dress.

It’s rare for me to be speechless, but I don’t mind telling you that I was at a total loss, y’all. I think I got out something like, “Uh, well, people just wear them with dresses these days and I really like them.”

And that’s when she got me AGAIN. “I do, too,” she said with the shyest of grins, “I have some baby blue ones.”

Yes. She. Did.

Now, why she set me up with the trick question is anybody’s guess. All I can report is that she left looking all pleased with herself while I was still trying to figure out what happened!

On the road again.

Hugs, Shellie
